I've posted a few times before. 10+ year automation engineer, but <1 year SCCM guy.
We do a 'patch-fest' once a quarter on production servers.
During our server patch deployments, we're running into (on average) 1-2 of the 40 or so patches a server receives quarterly marked as failures until the 2nd (or 3rd) reboot. This is what we see.
Deploy 40 patches to servers.
38 patches install.
2 fail.
Servers reboot.
Servers sit with a Software Center screen showing two failed patches.

Each server has two maintenance windows - one for 'Reboot never' in the year 2100, and another 8-10 hour window for patch day.
We keep having to:
Logon to each server.
Click retry in SC.
Wait for machines to reboot and see if we repeat the process.
Additionally, we're seeing machines (despite a pretty aggressive reporting schedule) that get stuck in this process not report their patch status automatically, so we're having to force Software Updates Scan Cycle on machines that didn't complete automatically.
Am I not patient enough? Should these restart on failed? Am I missing something obvious?
